  Itinerary A Downtown

  The visit to this sweet town along via Rossellino, Pienza's main artery that cuts longitudinally and over which the various palaces built by Bernardo Rossellino for the cardinals of the Curia during the pontificate of Pope Pius II, Enea Silvio century Piccolomini. Among these stands out, for the presence of numerous papal coats of arms which boast the walls, Ammannati building which houses a ground floor coffee The Post.

  In front of it you can admire the magnificent summer residence wanted by Pope Piccolomini whose main facade overlooking Piazza Pio II, the true heart of Pienza.

  It is the center of the urban structure of Pienza, in the square facing the main monuments of the city.

  Here is the absolutely unmissable stage of this visit. And for many good reasons. The undisputed historic and artistic interest to begin with, and the charm of the places where the rooms overlook.

  So we enter the inner courtyard and reach the main floor where you can visit the rooms where stayed for several summers, the pope "humanist" and are furnished with period furniture, paintings and furnishings vary.   Museum Diocesan
  Located inside the Bishop's palace, the residence of Cardinal Borgia pope and the future, the museum brings together many works of art, paintings, handmade of jewelry, tapestries, vestments, sculptures that are closely linked to the history of the city.

  To close the square stands the Palazzo Comunale.

  A few minutes from Pienza are, immersed in greenery, this beautiful Romanesque church. Especially noteworthy are the portals decorated with ancient symbols, the cylindrical tower of the tenth century and the crypt under the presbytery.
