Monastero di Sant'Anna in Camprena

A short walk from Pienza In the middle of the countryside more beautiful that you can imagine, there is the Monastery of Sant'Anna in Camprena. Nap in peace rests on a hill between the Crete Senesi and the Val d'Orcia this monastic complex built by Benedictine monks in the fifteenth century. Protected from view by a flourishing greenery, this gem can go unnoticed, and is, therefore, well be careful with an unpaved road that runs along rows of tall cypress trees. You'll take before this ancient monastic refuge, known in the past as nursing home in which they were accepted nurse Hana and the famous English Patient , Laszlo de Almansy during the filming of the award-winning film by Anthony Minghella. For there is to say, this place is a real beauty from Oscar! And anyone can stay in the rooms where they played Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes as this building is home to just a farm. Here you will be served dishes of traditional Tuscan cuisine, made of genuine products of monastery. Refectory

Among the areas of the monastery lies a special mention to the refectory, whose walls are adorned with a series of paintings by Antonio Bazzi known as Sodoma, depicting episodes from the life of Mary and Jesus which are the background landscapes inspired by the hills of Umbria and Tuscany.

    Take the bus from Siena chepartendo reach Pienza and from there continue by taxi to the monastery in sant'Annna Camprena.
