Riserva Naturale Lago di Montepulciano
A few kilometers from Montepulciano, in the splendid setting of the Val di Chiana, on the border of Umbria, is situated the natural reserve. The lake nestled in the magnificent Siena stems from a marsh that once occupied much of the Val di Chiana. He is currently one of the most important wetlands in central and is the natural habitat for many species of plants and animals. Given the importance in this world of wild, this area was recognized as a IBA (Important Bird Area). Along the banks of the lake and one of its reed stop that many birds migrate from Africa to Europe and other many species wintering and nesting.
The current structure is the result of this remediation interventions that from the eighteenth century have removed large areas of stagnant water, agriculture won.
