Sacred Hermitage and Monastery of Camaldoli

Nearly 1000 years ago St. Romuald arrived in the heart of the Casentino Forests here and founded the primordial nucleus of the monastic complex on a strip of land donatogli Count Maldolo, which involves Ca 'Maldoli ie house Maldolo.

Monastery

Built to complement dell'Eremo, which lies a few kilometers further up the monastery was enlarged over the centuries. In the fifteenth century it housed the Academy of Humanities which made the Lorenzo il Magnifico, and Leon Battista Alberti.

Among the areas of greatest interest should be reported with the refectory tables and stalls in walnut, a painting by Pomarancio, Lorenzo Lippi frescoes in the ceiling and wooden chests. The church, dating back to 1775, there are five tables Vasari. If you love to read, for you is a must the valuable library which the library has more than 30,000 volumes, including incunabula are shown rare liturgical codes and other documents of great interest.

Eremo

Between beech trees and winds up a road that leads All'Eremo whose monks, compared with those of the monastery, prefer the personal recollection community life. Of the five original cells, whose numbers over time is increased to twenty, three are open to public, including the old cell of St. Romuald, who has retained the typical structure of the cell hermitic along a corridor open to the bedroom, study and chapel. You may also visit the guest house, the refectory and the church of Saint Savior with the choir fifteenth.

    Or you can get off at the station in Arezzo or to Bibbiena, from here take another means of Camaldoli.

    Arezzo and there are buses to Bibbiena Camaldoli.
